Hello and welcome back,

This week, Southeast Asia demonstrates its knack for turning challenges into opportunities and everyday life into art.

The region is tackling its mounting waste crisis by transforming it into energy, celebrating its 59th year of unity with a renewed focus on youth and security, and exporting its vibrant street culture to global stages.

From the roar of engines and crowds at Singapore’s National Day Parade to the quiet competition of koi breeders, these stories reveal a region moving forward with creativity and conviction.

The Middle East crisis has exposed Southeast Asia’s vulnerability to fossil fuel supply shocks, with the IEA reporting that 60% of the region’s crude oil and a third of its gas imports came from the Middle East before the conflict. In response, governments are investing in renewable energy, including waste-to-energy projects across the region.
