🚒 SGFPC 2025: Where the world’s best lifesavers compete in Singapore
Jakarta firefighters shine in Singapore challenge🚨🤝

🪶 The Main Takeaway
The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) held the Singapore-Global Firefighters & Paramedics Challenge (SGFPC) 2025 at Singapore Expo Hall 4 from November 20 to 21.
19 emergency responder teams from Southeast Asia, East Asia, Europe, and the Middle East joined the annual event to compete in scenario-based challenges and highlight international cooperation in firefighting and paramedicine.
🌏 Why It’s on Our Radar
The Emergency Events Database reported 393 natural hazard–related disasters worldwide in 2024, including extreme temperatures, droughts, storms, earthquakes, floods, volcanic activities, and wildfires.
Over 16,700 people lost their lives, 167.2 million were affected, and the disasters caused an estimated USD 242 billion in economic losses last year.
Through the competition, SCDF promotes joint tactics, cross-border learning, and regional capacity-building to improve firefighters' and paramedics' skills, standards, teamwork, coordination, and readiness for future disasters and accidents.

💡 What’s at Stake
🔥 Participants competed individually or in teams in three challenges:
Global Challenges:
Braveheart (Individual): A fast, high-adrenaline 8-stage race designed to test a participant’s strength, skills, and mental endurance.
Braveheart (team): The 12-member team, made up of participants from all organizations, must complete the tasks as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of all team members and the casualty.
Rip-it-off: In a road traffic accident scenario, contestants are judged on their on-site assessment, command and control, vehicle stabilization, extrication techniques, and medical intervention skills.
Public Challenges:
School challenge: In this challenge, which involves a gas explosion and fire in a school canteen, student participants must extinguish the fire, perform CPR, and rescue a casualty with leg injuries.
Community challenge: For this kitchen fire scenario, Community First Responders activated via the myResponder app must extinguish the fire, provide basic first aid and CPR, and move the casualty to safety.
Company Emergency Response Team Challenge: Participants respond to a flash fire and partial office collapse by donning PPE, laying hoses, extinguishing the fire, and performing a confined-space snatch rescue.
Private Ambulance Operator Challenge: This challenge tests participants' ability to respond to severe injuries and heavy bleeding, including casualty management, IV fluid administration, and stabilizing lower-limb fractures.
Singapore Challenges:
Fire-medical challenge: This challenge shows SCDF’s dual-trained responders handling a simulated kitchen fire with CAF backpacks and then performing High-Performance CPR to demonstrate coordinated fire and medical response.
Confined space challenge: Rescuers race to save victims from a collapsed structure, demonstrating ORNSmen’s use of cutting and lifting tools, teamwork in confined-space rescue, and safe casualty lowering from the Mobile Height Tower.
HazMat challenge: This challenge simulates a chemical plant HazMat incident, where specialists quickly put on protective gear, contain chemical leaks, and rescue casualties from confined spaces despite the bulky equipment.
