🎯 Main Takeaway
On 29th July 2026, Roblox, in collaboration with Ruangguru, one of Indonesia’s largest education companies, announced a national-scale education initiative for Indonesian students.
The program is aimed at helping to develop students’ creativity, digital literacy, and computational capabilities, and at promoting a responsible attitude on the internet.
With Indonesia being one of the fastest-growing content-creation and Roblox-user markets in the world, the initiative is riding the momentum, blending innovative educational technology and digital citizenship.
Additionally, Roblox also held the Indonesia Creator Meetup 2026 on 8th August 2026. This marked the first time a Roblox Creator Meetup was held in Indonesia.
Gathering 160 creators across the regions of Indonesia, with the new concept of Novel Games, which pushes the limitations of gameplay and visuals in Roblox.
Roblox also presents an initiative to boost this concept through the Jumpstart and Incubator program.
🎮 What is Roblox?
Roblox is an online platform and game creation system where users build, share, and play games made by other users rather than a single game.
It’s marketed as an immersive experience where millions of people can interact daily and share endless unique experiences.
The nature of a platform that heavily relies on user-generated content, such as Roblox, would lead to the creation of many online communities formed by people who share specific interests.
Personalisation and immersion are often cited as Roblox's main qualities; each user can create their own avatar in any way they want, be it human-looking or any imaginable form.
The game even has its own virtual currency called Robux. Given how Roblox is as a platform, it can function beyond a conventional game.

📡 Why It’s on Our Radar
Indonesian digital literacy is on the line, as the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) states that Indonesia’s Digital Society Index (IMDI) in 2025 has risen from 2024 to 44,53 out of 100.
Despite the positive trend over the years, the growth has been modest compared to the jump from 2022's 37,80 to 2023’s 43,18. Therefore, the Roblox initiative can serve as infrastructure for the growth of digital literacy, where many Indonesian youths are already present.
Moreover, this initiative can also serve as a flagship for the wider Southeast Asia region and beyond. This initiative would be the first time Roblox becomes an environment for digital education on a nationwide scale.
Meaning that the success of this program in Indonesia will likely shape a similar program elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
According to RoWatcher, Southeast Asian countries, especially Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, show the fastest growth on the Roblox platform.
⚠️ Why It’s Important
Currently, the program is active in 261 schools across Indonesia, reaching 230 teachers and 2700 students in 2026, and aims to reach 500 teachers and 7500 students at the middle and high school levels in different regions across Indonesia.
The success of this program could create digital talent that is vital to Indonesia’s growth.
According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on 21 March 2022, Indonesia will need at least nine million digital talents by 2030 to contribute Rp 4.434 trillion to the national economy.
The Roblox program, which targets middle school (SMP) and high school (SMA) students, plays a crucial role in achieving Indonesia’s digital talent target, as by 2030 these students will become the workforce needed for Indonesia’s national economy.
💻 How does the program work?
The main anchor of this program is Roblox Studio, a free creation platform that allows users to create and publish immersive 3D experiences.
The program would begin with the teachers, who will undergo intensive training to familiarise themselves with the technology, enabling them to facilitate learning through games in Roblox Studio.
Next, teachers will guide students through structured learning modules and project-based activities, so that students can turn their ideas into original interactive experiences.
Additionally, the program involves parents through Parent Talks, where families can gain guidance to support their children's growing creativity and promote safe, positive interaction in the digital world.
This program is scheduled to start at the end of 2026.
Lastly, the program will end with the Roblox Student Competition. Where students accompanied by their teachers are given the opportunity to show off their original Roblox experience with the theme of “Build a Civil & Safe World” Marking the climax of the learning process after months showing their prowess in digital literacy.

🏠 Why it hits home
Beyond helping Indonesian students grow in digital literacy. Roblox has also given Indonesian content creators a platform to showcase their work through the Roblox Creator Meetup.
Many young Indonesian creators from diverse backgrounds presented how they built businesses through their creations on Roblox while fostering an inclusive community.
With a featured game being “The Morgue Shift” which managed to gain a substantial amount of popularity.
And the impact is real: between 2019 and 2024, Roblox's own Economic Impact Report shows the platform's creator economy contributed $8.2 million (Rp126.7 billion) to Indonesia's GDP.
Individual creators are seeing that growth too; between Q4 2022 and Q4 2025, the number of Indonesian creators earning enough to qualify for cash payouts grew 176%.
🏁 Bottom Line
Bringing education into the places where youth spend most of their time addresses both the problem of “how to deliver learning effectively” and “how to get students interested in learning”.
As the number of Roblox users grows rapidly in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia as a whole, it would be a massive step if this growth also translates into a rapid increase in digital literacy in the region.
It also serves as a platform where many users might find their business venture, allowing economic growth amongst citizens to prosper.
