Your curated wrap-up from The Southeast Asia Desk.

Hello and welcome back,

This week, Southeast Asia has been marked by profound moments of reflection: on independence, sovereignty, and the enduring struggles that define the region’s present.

We commemorate the courage of those who fought for freedom in the Philippines and Malaysia, while also confronting the recurring environmental crises that test regional cooperation and public health.

Amidst these challenges, there are also stories of progress: the region’s growing influence in global fintech, and the quiet yet significant diplomatic engagements that shape our strategic landscape.

We also take a moment to appreciate the cultural vibrancy that continues to define Southeast Asia, from magical lantern festivals to the emotional wave of new music.
